We make mistakes. When we do, we correct them promptly and visibly. This policy explains how.
Our Commitment
Accuracy is the foundation of trust between a newsroom and its readers. When we get something wrong, we say so, we fix it, and we explain what changed. We do not silently edit stories.
How to Report an Error
Email us at admin@localgazette.co.za with the subject line “Correction”. Please include:
- The URL of the article.
- A clear description of what you believe is incorrect.
- Any supporting information you want us to consider.
- Your name and contact details so we can follow up.

Categories of Correction
We use four categories:
- Correction — a factual error in the story has been identified and fixed. A correction note appears at the foot of the article.
- Clarification — the story was accurate, but could reasonably be misread. A clarification note explains the point more fully.
- Update — new information has come to light that changes the picture. An update note records what has been added and when.
- Retraction — the story cannot stand and is withdrawn. A retraction note replaces the story and explains why.
Timeline
We acknowledge every correction request within one business day. We aim to investigate and publish a correction, clarification, update or retraction within five business days of a confirmed error. Where a story poses an ongoing risk to a person, we act immediately.
Placement
Corrections appear on the story itself, at the foot of the article, with a visible label. Where the error was significant, a note also appears on the homepage. Where an article has been widely shared on social media, we may also post a note on the social platforms where it was shared.
Corrections Log
We maintain an internal log of all corrections, the date they were made, and the reason. This log is available to our editorial team and to our legal advisor. We do not currently publish a public log, but we review this position from time to time.
